Altran is a custom high voltage transformer and coil manufacturer with deep expertise in stable output and reinforced insulation for compact applications. We also design low-wattage X-ray transformers that provide safe and reliable power for CT scanners and fluoroscopy systems. Our engineering team works directly with OEMs to ensure every design meets exact voltage, insulation, and integration requirements.

X-Ray Transformer Capabilities & Services

We’re also a custom X-ray transformer manufacturer whose solutions support high‑voltage generation, filament power delivery, and integrated rectification systems. This helps maintain stable operation in diagnostic and analytical equipment.

Our engineers prioritize high-voltage output stability and thermal performance in every custom build. We validate designs against applicable UL, IEC, and EN safety standards to ensure compliance with these regulations. This process involves rigorous testing to ensure compliance with creepage, clearance, and dielectric strength requirements.

Industries and Applications We Support

As a custom HV coil manufacturer, we deliver precise bias or control signals for analytical systems. These components typically function as auxiliary supplies where thermal performance and insulation strength require tight control.

Our custom high voltage transformers support a wide range of applications:

  • Grid bias supplies for fluoroscopy systems
  • Detector and photomultiplier tube (PMT) HV supplies (CT, NDT, analytical equipment)
  • Electrostatic control circuits
  • High-voltage reference sources
  • Scan control and timing coils (CT systems)
  • Floating secondary HV coils for medical imaging subsystems
  • Bias and gating coils for X-ray tubes
  • Trigger, spark, and ignition-type HV windings

Altran custom X-ray transformers are ideal for a wide range of high-reliability and precision applications, including:

  • Medical Imaging Systems (Radiographic X-Ray)
  • Digital and Analog X-Ray Systems
  • Dental and Veterinary X-Ray Equipment
  • Industrial X-Ray Inspection and Non-Destructive Testing (NDT)
  • Analytical and Laboratory X-Ray Equipment

Research & Development Capabilities

Altran engineers custom HV/low-power coils and X-ray transformers for precision voltage output, reinforced insulation, and stable performance. All R&D meets applicable UL, IEC, and EN safety standards. This includes creepage and clearance requirements, dielectric strength testing, and high-voltage insulation system validation.

We develop each transformer in close collaboration with our OEM partners. Our designs meet exact isolation, voltage, current, and environmental specifications

Our engineering capabilities include:

  • High-turn-count secondary windings
  • Ultra-fine-gauge HV winding techniques
  • Layered and segmented insulation structures
  • Triple-insulated or specialty HV magnet wire
  • Shielding and sectional bobbin designs for low capacitance
  • Floating secondaries designed to operate at HV potentials
  • Vacuum impregnation, varnish, epoxy potting, or silicone encapsulation

Supported Core Types and Geometries

HV/LW designs require core structures that maintain isolation and stable inductance. As a custom X-ray and high-voltage low-wattage transformer manufacturer, we offer the following core types and geometries for X-ray and high-voltage, low-wattage transformers:

Core TypeDesign Characteristics
Ferrite CoresOptimized for high-frequency switching and low core loss.
Air-Core CoilsEliminates core loss and minimizes capacitance for ultra-clean signals.
Closed-Core / HV Laminated StructuresHigh permeability for compact, low-wattage reference and bias assemblies.
Shell-Type Laminated High-Voltage CoresProvides robust mechanical protection and magnetic shielding for line-frequency inputs.
Fully Custom High-Voltage Core GeometriesFabricated in-house to meet unique geometric and spatial constraints.

Design Capabilities

Altran manufactures custom X-ray and high-voltage, low-wattage coils to meet specific application requirements:

Electrical & Performance Specifications

Our engineering team optimizes every design to meet precise output and stability requirements. HV outputs range from hundreds to tens of thousands of volts, with power levels spanning milliwatts to a few watts.

We engineer for low leakage inductance and low interwinding capacitance to ensure stable tube operation and accurate HV control. They’re compatible with both line-frequency (50/60 Hz) and high-frequency inverter-driven systems.

Many designs incorporate floating HV secondaries for imaging and sensing applications. We also integrate floating filament transformers designed to operate at high potential. Optional HV rectifier integration is available based on system requirements.

Mechanical Construction & Insulation

We use the following construction methods and materials to ensure long-term isolation and physical durability:

  • PCB-mount, chassis-mount, or encapsulated modules
  • Vacuum impregnation, varnish, or epoxy systems for enhanced insulation
  • Reinforced and double-insulated HV structures
  • High-voltage secondary windings designed for radiographic X-ray systems

CT detectors, fluoroscopy grid control, HV bias circuits, and precision HV reference modules all benefit from these design approaches.

How to Specify Your Custom Transformer

The first step in the custom design process is to define your input and output requirements. Our engineers need precise input voltage, operating frequency, and the desired output voltage range data. Load characteristics, including duty cycle and peak current duration, will heavily influence the thermal management strategies and core selection.

Physical constraints and environmental factors also dictate the final transformer geometry. Specifying available space, mounting preferences, and dielectric insulation requirements helps us optimize the design. Operating temperature ranges and proximity to other sensitive electronics further refine material selection for the coil construction.

Custom-Only Solutions

We do not stock or offer catalog versions of our HV/LW coils or X-ray transformers. Every unit is custom-engineered to your voltage, insulation, thermal, electrical, and mechanical requirements for safe and reliable operation. The result is a coil or transformer matched precisely to your application.
